Our Story...

Her Story...

Zack and I met when he walked into a bar one night in Troutville VA, August 2011.  We instantly had a connection and hit it off.  After weeks of conversation, Zack took me on our first date to Carraba's (someone was listening when I said I LOVED spaghetti).  Honestly, I don't remember much from that night because I was having a bit of social anxiety and I was very nervous about getting sauce all over my face.  I do remember leaving the date being very happy, it was like a fairy tale (even though Zack would say that doesn't exist).  Zack offically asked me to be his girlfriend September 22, 2011 and we would date, long distance, for a little over 2 years.  After the two years was up and I finished graduate school, I found a job in North Carolina where we could finally be close together.  Like the wide eyed girl I am I was expecting our future plans to progress much faster than they did and became very frustrated.  But, I was very patient and understanding (well.... as much as the Phillips girl is able to be).  April 6th, 2015, the day after Easter and my spring break, I had not been feeling very well, but had plans with my friend Megan to get our nails done.  I was looking lovely as always with my sweat pants, glasses, and messy bun.  I walked in the house and Zack said "look what I did!" and I responded "oh, nice you cleaned the house.  It looks great."  He continued "look what else I did!" and again I responded with "AND you made dinner, wow."  Almost right after that he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.

His Story...

One night Matt and I decided to stop by the Pomegranate in Troutville before a night of usual schennanigans. At the time our band was scheduled to play a show at the same venue, so we were there doing our usual routine of comparing ourselves to the other bands in an attempt to combat our overpowering insecurity.  Or at least that was the plan.  What ended up happening was that I would breifly meet the woman I would eventually marry.  After getting her number, (score!) we began texting and talking for the next few days until we decided to meet.  She drove all the way down to Greensboro for our first date at Carraba's.  I don't remember much about the evening except for the fact that she was adorable.  I noticed that night we had the ability to speak and entertain ourselves without actually having to be doing anything.  All we did was eat a plate of spaghetti and talk, and it was the best date I had ever went on. Flash forward 3 and a half years and I'm in Finks with Kara trying to pick out a ring.  And thats literally how easy it is with her. I wish I had more of a story to tell about how we overcame adversity or have been through so much, but honestly we haven't.  That is because life with her is simple.  She is the most caring and loving individual in the world and that is why on June 11th, 2016 she is becoming my wife.  I would be crazy not to.
